Knee Jerk Reactions
A brief look
We all have those moments where we have an immediate reaction to a statement or action made by another. The “Knee Jerk Reaction” as it is known by many, an outward emotional reflex reaction to an action.
The “Knee Jerk Reaction” also manifests itself inwardly.
Being the emotionally present sort myself I really don’t see anything wrong with the reaction if the manifestation is inward. Emotional Control in the moment. Control of this nature does not mean you are just swallowing the feeling to be kept bottled up inside you. Holding on in that moment means you are keeping control of what could become a volatile situation and preventing a hostile escalation by your action!
That is a good thing.
The downsides of the outward manifestation.
To me, my mind, the single absolute worst thing is that you’ve given away your position. The individual you’re engaged with has been handed by you, something to work with. If the engagement is one to one, perhaps not such a big deal. In a meeting with others observing the interaction may be a very big deal. The degree of reaction could alter how you’re viewed by those around you.
There is a 3rd side to this coin. Yes a coin has three sides and that 3rd side could be of vital importance to you. That 3rd side is the edge. You may wish to consider that what you’ve seen was in fact not a knee jerk reaction but a contrived response looking for a reaction to the action.
May I suggest you make good use of all your observational skills and keep your hands on your knees.

Change ‘knee jerk’ to ‘sucker punch’ and that outward manifestation thing would suit me just fine.

I’m keeping a list here and have added you to the, “keep my hands on my knees like hell” column. In the event of a melt down the office will disavow any knowledge of your actions. If that fails I’ll rub a dumdum on the list and have Rusty eat it.
