We’ve been going round and round
exchanging our half smiles
having all those conversations
where we won’t let them the end

telling tales we don’t ever share
safe together where no other goes

neither of us chancing more words

time after time we both show up alone
friends paired off sneaking looks at us
wondering if we’ll get what they see

so close to having that burning bliss
one of us always not quite there

can’t keep it going this way anymore

you kissing back making everything alright
