Whiny Awards

Whiny Awards

Working Title – Whiny Awards

You’re not yourself when you’re whiny. Unless of course you’re a manipulative then you are yourself and thanks for being one of those exceptions that proves the rule.

I appreciate that Snickers has taken the Coke Concept and gave it legs, legs that you can kick people with.

We also have the ignorant whiner, those of any RITE, the “Radical Left” for example. Yes, that does mean Liberals because a flake by any other name is still whining, liberally. I’m old school, back in the day when “Flake” was more than enough.

I do appreciate that to a Liberal or Demoncrat (not a typo), that a Conservative “RANT” may appear to be a whine, it isn’t.

The thing is, with a conservative on a rant, you can get through to them with a “Constervation”. Yes, it was me that added that word to Urban Dictionary.

This chatter actually took place. Names and genders have been changed to satisfy the emotionally controlling snowflake safe space demands.

HE SAID
Ran in to a buddy. He took them for me.

SHE SAID:
Clearly, that was written by the Swedish Chef- not the French!

So… you’re whiny today?

HE SAID:
I’m never whiny. It’s for the awards I’ll hand out.

Buddy and I were having that conversation. A film project he’s doing. We were talking about dispositions.

SHE SAID:
I admit, you didn’t look very whiny in the photo, thus I had to ask.

When will you be handing out said awards? That would be quite the ceremony!

HE SAID:
You think it’ll be appreciated that I used both official languages?

Hey, have you folks got 1 yet?

SHE SAID:
I appreciate it.

Of course we don’t have one here- that would require the general population to actually learn something! You know, put in the effort…

HE SAID:
SNARKASM!

For those of you looking to use derivatives “En Francais”…

pleurnichard – crybaby
du pleurnichard – the whiner
avec pleurnichard – with whimper

In the moment I’m not sure whom or what to hand out the “1st Whiny” to. You know for certain I’ll be working on it. This is just a sample image. I think the final art work will be a bit creepy cuz whiny sure gives me the creeps!

Psychedelic Psunday FINI?!

Psychedelic Psunday

ADDENDUM MAY 27 (early), 2018
I heard yesterday, after this piece was already scheduled for posting that today is the last show. We are going to need a top 500 list from Pschedelic Psunday!

“Good Friend” is more of an aficionado of the “Theme Song” than I am and did ask if I was going to have to live in monochrome. To which I replied that there is only 1 thing I can say to that and it does qualify for this spot with a 1973 release date…. KODACHROME

And as I start this little tale up, my coffee spot has a staple of “Psychedelic Psunday” playing, “Ooh La La, The Faces”. A little Ronnie Wood on YouTube for you. This one will get you to the original on Spotify.

From the beginning…
You could of course hop over to the Mighty Q and listen to what they got going on.

The wiki regarding Psychedelic Psunday needs updated. It starts at noon now.

The art. I was working on an image and as I told “Good Friend”, I screwed up right on this one. I didn’t select everything I wanted thinking I had and when I made the new image, the mask is pretty much what my copy got.

GRH Psunday 01 fini

I sent the capture along to “Good Friend” who responded with, “This is you on Psychedeic Sunday isn’t it?”.  I agreed and said, “That’s actually a good idea”.

Yes I added some touches from my repertoire to make it exactly to my liking and added the word imagery. Exactly to mu liking can be construed as perfect, to me.

Y’all are seeing what a friend triggered with a little banter. I probably wouldn’t have thought of giving the piece a tie to how much I enjoy the Radio on Psunday afternoon.

If you want to use the image as a desktop background, feel free. If you can stand me looking at you all the time that is.

A Few Points to Leeward

A Few Points to Leeward

Present tense, with willful consideration, a different state of usual
Remembering as reinforcement instead of making denial
Elixirs of pharmacology, self preservation tames self reservation
Every assist carries it’s own special enlightening twist
More is less but less is also more and the desirous state of being

Pragmatists, by all accounts, should partake of that they teach
Take that step or two outside the self and look well around
Instances repetitive, if you can call almost daily repetitive
Voyaging this damned derelict, course adjustment laid in
Escape by degrees, found in the enacting of the enlightenment

Learning Modality

Learning Modality

I came across a short learning modality questionnaire, “The VARK”.

I also did a second short questionnaire on, “Teachers and Trainers. My personal result and teaching style result don’t surprise me as I already knew I am of multimodality.

The way in which each of us learn best.

What I find interesting in my returns is that my learning method is different than my teaching method.

For me learning is “read/do” and teaching is “see/do”. This makes sense to me. I was in a trade where see/do is significant for the learning apprentice.

We are not always going to have what are learning delivered to us in the style we like it best. When that happens, is we have to pay closer attention to the material we are learning.

Do the questionnaire and find out what your modality is. Do it with your kids and discover what works best for them and where you’ll have to give or get help.

Temet Nosce, is Latin for “Know Thy Self”. Knowing what works best for you and doesn’t aint a bad thing at all.

Ontario’s Liberal Trickle Down Health Care Spending

My news feed told me that Ontario’s Provincial Liberals are promising 800 Million dollars in health care spending on hospitals to acquire staff and reduce wait times.

The header probably should have also said “and among other things, be relevant“.

We know what tap that new gush in spending is coming from don’t we.

Recently and personally, since February 14 I’ve had a couple MRI’s and a couple x-rays. Something I saw when I was having those procedures really pissed me off.

Going back a number of years under Dalton McGuinty we had the eHealth scandal. Kathleen Wynne was a player in that debacle. That little liberal misadventure cost Ontarians 1 Billion dollars. Ontarians are paying about 1 Billion a month to service the Province’s current debt.

The dust settled and Doug Ford is the leader of the Ontario PC’s and is a blustery and well-known commodity, municipally. The Wicked Witch Wynne is in full blown pander mode, but when isn’t she.  The Naturally Delusional Party’s Naturally Delusional Poobah showed her true colours when the ALLEGATION against Patrick Brown broke, invoked Ghomeshi to a Toronto Star Reporter, there by displaying her inner FemiNazi.

There is the cast of Leaders for the Ontario Election on or before June 7th, 2018.

Sorry Green Party of Ontario, I appreciate your tenacity but you’re a nonfactor.

Again, we find ourselves tilting hard to strategic voting.

OVote 2018

This is a missive for whom ever forms Government.

As far as fiscal responsibility goes, who knows what either the Politically Cantankerous or the Naturally Delusional will do until they are empowered by the electorate to be doing it. Will both hold true to previous people empowered times when they formed the Government?

There is so much to drill Wynne and her contemptible cronies for over the course of their ruinous run on the empowered by the people track. The people empower all the parties to govern, so when you get right down to it, that “who’s the real fool” axiom is playing on a loop in my head.

I like many have a stake in the horse race that is the Ontario General Election.

It isn’t a simple matter of analyzing and predicting whom you think will be the Government when the polls close when you are invested in the result. It is difficult to be detached when you have a stake.

In fact, I have several stakes, just like all other Ontarians. Where health care is concerned, the stakes are high for all of us.

I spoke previously in my Practical Indignation piece about records and there being nothing attached to me. There isn’t anything really attached to you either and had a Billion dollars not been wasted, we would have had a real good start to easier access of the records that belong to us.

The records belong to you. Like a mechanics report on your car, your health mechanic doesn’t own the reports. You don’t leave the mechanics report on your vehicle behind when you leave the shop.

You should be able to leave with a report after you’ve had your own body in the shop. Sometimes the report is a prescription and you can keep record of that before giving it to your pharmacist.

That 1 Billion that belonged to you Ontario, it was supposed to be part of people being more involved and better able to manage their own health care. Easy access to information.

Great concept for something that we absolutely need in health care with piss poor implementation and oversight.

I had MRI’s and x-rays done recently and the MRI’s were in one place and the x-rays in another place. Different service providers if you like.

In the change rooms of both places there was the sign I’m showing you here.

IMG_20180214_233417The signs were pretty much identical except for the entity that is managing the access. Access for a fee.

That is your trickle down Liberal Health Care in a province that is spending 1 Billion a month to service debt. There is no central database for you and your doctors to draw on. No easier access to your personal history, Increased repetition of procedures which I speak to in my “Practical Indignancy” piece.

It falls to us across all generations to prod and probe those we elect to put the measures in place that have already been paid for.

It is up to we the electorate to make the changes when those we empowered fail.

Here in Ontario we must make change. We have no other option because the “No Wynne” Liberals have made it so that the electorate have no other reasonable choice but to remove their power.

Wynne’s promise of 800 million for hospitals to reduce wait times and add staff? I’m thinking with performance as the measuring stick, we’re gonna get Liberally stuck again.

When the time comes to cast your vote, please “Be Relevant“.

Almighty Bound – Lyric

Almighty Bound

Softly creeping comes the light
seeping through your prison’s glass
Masking out the stations of the cross
along your rotting creaky floor
Memories leaking from the dripping faucet
that’s really your beleaguered mind
Swirling slowly away you, cry
washing them down the drain

Hey you, you up there,
     can you feel her stare?
Hey you, you listening up there,
     can you take her despair?
Hey you, you watching up there,
     can you show you care?

Once there shone glimmers of hope
now there’s only the hanging hemp
Taking your place in the stations
last light the signal of descent
The shrieking beams might as well
be your muted screams
Alone in your corner you swing
twisting over all the years left unspent

Hey you, you up there,
     couldn’t you feel her stare?
Hey you, you listening up there,
     couldn’t you take her despair?
Hey you, you watching up there,
     couldn’t you show you care?

Orbital Thoughts

Orbital Thoughts

It’s all said and done and now I’m orbiting looking at jobs teaching English.

The course was terrific except for the technical glitches on the school’s side. On the I.T. side, the issues were addressed with the University and the ship moved on. Well the glitches affecting me are over with, I hope.

I opened up a “Speciality Elective” for a look see, “Teaching Test Preparation Courses”. Hit a glitch. Hit a critical thought judgement too. I’ve only looked at the first section, but I think this would have been a good way to start out any instruction of teaching English.

What’s next is a controlled search and searching out a couple contacts. With one of my contacts a short discussion has been had. The wheels are in motion to an introduction.

In the looking around I’ve discovered something we have that the rest of the world has too, weekends.

The point being is that there is a job to be done and there will be time for the culture and the sites. The immediate co-worker culture will be taken up immediately. Those co-workers are going to have information I’ll need if I want to be successful.

I put a few irons in the tutoring fire in my community as well. My community friendlies are a good bunch of people and I’ll miss them when I go. The plan is to come back, but who knows.

It is as important and maybe even more so, that you know where you don’t want to go.

If the cultural norms of a country disturb you to the point where you cannot respect them, don’t go there. Simple stuff. If you opt to go to a place where you think you really don’t belong and find yourself in difficulty because your Alligator Mouth overloaded your Hummingbird Ass, you own it, on your own.

For me, warm matters but it isn’t everything. I’m spiritual and learning of “Eastern Spirituality” up close and personal appeals to me. I’d like to see “Red Square” and “The Winter Palace” too. I love the architectural no matter where I find it.

I don’t think I’d mind Tibet, but in the moment, I just don’t have enough information and that’ll change. I would kind of like to see the place where I’m going to be working in my second next life.

They tell me culture shock is inevitable. They tell me how to cope with Culture Shock.

Decorum is universal and an important part of one’s make-up. I have that, and I practice it every day. They also made it clear what not to put up with. I don’t see me having a problem with standing up for myself and getting help should I need it.

What is my teaching preference? I want to teach the ELPT’s. I wanna teach the game. I got the game for the task.

This is “Language Arts”. Art is messy.

Don’t worry about it, you’ll clean up, read on.

I see teaching ELP’s in the same way I saw teaching the trade at the Trade School Level.

I’ve spoken of this before about the different dynamic for apprentices at College. We were there as part of our job. We left our jobs to go to school and then went back to our jobs where our marks were reported to our employer.

For lack of a better term, “The regular students”, the ones who had come from high school straight in to College preparing for a career. They don’t know anything but being students and their mindset was different.

The regulars were preparing for something at school and the apprentices were working at school.

People looking to take the proficiency tests for entrance to university in a foreign country, they’re in the game with a purpose. People looking to take an ESP, English for Specific purposes, they’re in the game too. They’re motivated to achieve with a goal in mind. Isn’t that the idea of a game, to score goals of some kind?

I’ll be comfortable as I can be teaching any level. Teaching the game is my preference.

I’m friends with a man of the Christian cloth. We have had some interesting conversations and we’ll have more. In the conversation we had last we talked about blended language.

I’ve spoken on blended language in my, “Carlin Influence” piece.

Both my friend and me, we have good vocabularies. We use them speaking to each other. We talked about how we both blend the academic and the interpersonal when we talk. We agreed, we wished there were more people who did the blending we do in interpersonal communication.

We both have a good sense of humour and we’re both pragmatic. Pretty much the only place where we differ is on what is the path to ascension. I respect his path and he respects mine.

He doesn’t even mind waiting when I have to take a phone call from on high.

It turns out I was mistaken about being done. Especially when they told me I was 100% complete!

I was functioning on the presumption that with there being 3 different course offerings to this TEFL course, the completion levels were graduated. I’m told that’s not the case and the Electives, which show up as different courses have to be completed before I’m seen as being complete and therefore worthy to receive the benefits that go with completion.

I now have a Quandary of my own that I’m waiting on answer to from the powers that be of Higher Education. Been almost 48 hours since I sent an email inquiring.

What the hell, it’s weekend, somewhere but apparently not in my orbit.

Oh My Head, Again or Watch your English!

Oh My Head, Again or Watch your English!

Damn Elves!
Here on the 2nd day of November in the year of our lord 2017, the frickin’ coffee elves are playing Ho Ho tunes. We are not amused! Had this happened yesterday on all saint’s day, I might of risked a couple of my 6 wings and beatified a couple elves.

I told one of the elves, with this music, in 7 – 10 days there are going to be dead elves. The Elf thought I was kidding when I asked if there were any spare holes lying around.

Canada and this is how it is supposed to work, We have the Grey Cup game and parade the last weekend of November and the next weekend is Santa Claus parades all over the Great White North.

I was referring to the corporate elf and not the good service elves who take such good care of us for the spare holes.

Teaching English as a Foreign Language.
I haven’t said much about the TEFL course I’m taking of late. It’s moving along with a few glitches. I was in the course doing work when an unannounced site overhaul was implemented. Yes I let them know of my displeasure.

The powers that be there hit my, “You pissed me off” switch. I’ll tie this in to the “just because I don’t do this anymore it doesn’t mean I got stupid” category. In January of 2000 I interviewed to be the web director for the New Jersey Devils of the NHL. I’ve said this before and I’m saying it again. When I walked in to the man’s office he had the piece I did on his desk. He’d checked me out. He told me, “Artistically and creatively you’re the best”.

Anyone care to question as to whether or not I know my shit?

The typography is much better. The previous was soft pastels on a white page. In the course they talk about meeting the needs of the learners. I wonder if the PC people seeing to those needs ever considered when the site was being built, a little thing that afflicts some people called “colour blindness”.

I see extremely well. Might explain why among other things, I’m a damn good photographer and observational writer. So, if the design is bothering me…

Lemme ask y’all a question I already know the answer to because I know how to run a web site. Should your clients be notified prior to a major alteration to the site and when that change is going to take place?

It also brings me to you never know what someone has when you encounter them. This bunch hit the “PC enough to frost you flakes” mentality. They thought I should be more understanding because they did tell you in the site as it was taking place.

I showed them I know how to take electronic notes and the course is repetitive on making sure your students have that skill.

Here’s another question for y’all, do you think I’d have even been on the site if I’d known changes were going to take place? And who does a major change in the middle of the day?

Mostly it’s good. Don’t get me wrong, mostly it is good and I’m enjoying the learning path immensely.

Blade Runner 2049
I went and saw the film yesterday. My film maker buddy and I talked about the film a little bit and we both commented on the 2-hour 44-minute running time.

When the film ended I went, “What, over already?”. I liked the film and didn’t notice the running time at all. There was a scene setting that made me think Chernobyl. Somewhat fitting when I checked email and discovered fallout. I’m a big boy, I can handle it.

Learning Path
I’ve been looking at all kinds of teacher’s helpers and apps as part of my own diligence. Found some really neat stuff in my web travails.

I have been to teacher dedicated sites and joined a couple.

Some great resources that are free or of low cost.

GRH Path IMG_20171031_114347

“Good Friend” just checked in with a response to something I said. My “Restraint” is being admired. And oddly a song comes on the FM that “Good Friend” made it clear there would not even be the risk of an ear worm taken. Also, oddly or not, and that means you “Good Friend”, that response of yours had to do with school

The response was just a tad more vociferous than what I related.

TEFL Handbook by the “TEFL Handbook Team”. Strange I do indeed find it that they spell “Tire” with a “Y”. No not at the end. I’ve browsed through this thing and with what they say is coming you got a powerful tool at low cost.

This one is fun, “Preposition” by The Brazillions. It’s multipurpose too.

The “Hangman” game aint bad either.

Listening skills are big on this path. I don’t just listen with my ears. I listen with my eyes as well and have done such for a very long time.

Canadian Politics
I haven’t been following to closely the last few weeks. Everybody in the damn country knows the level of incompetency at the Federal Level and take comfort in the fact there are less than 2 years remaining for Trudeau 2.Doh.

Here in Ontario the blustering of the Wicked Witch Wynne goes on. You’d think a witch of this magnitude would understand a few plums can’t do the job you need the flying monkeys for! Less than a year until the electorate dumps the water over her pointless head.

I needed a small rant today. Sometimes you have to rant and it’s more than okay. Blow the shit out and shower it away.

Back to the studying right after I check and see if a light has gone on.

Potty Mouth

Potty Mouth

When I saw this thing roll by it was difficult to take what I saw for real. Figured I couldn’t of seen it correctly. Followed it up and I saw it right.

I looked, I read, the words that came out of my mouth were not the words that were being said in my brain as I was in a public place. I did a recent piece about cursing. I do and the bit I do is mostly benign. If I forget something or make an error you’ll get an “oh shit” out of me. Who hasn’t let out a “Damn it!”?

One of the things it says on the splash down (no not a #2) screen is this, “helps you and your child learn the importance of taking regular potty breaks”.

This thing…. THIS THING!

ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME!?

Where do you even start with how fucked up this is?
Is this what it’s come to with parenting today?

Older and Better

Older and Better

All he kept talking about was glory days.

I was thinking about this piece this morn and then Springsteen’s , “Glory Days” came on. Now that’s what I call a set your dial to write clue. “Good Friend” calls that summoning something else. Barely got any coffee in me, damn.

Many of us know one or two or three people that are like that. One of the best film portrayals of the “Glory Days” individual was by Dennis Hopper in “Hoosiers”.

You’re not getting older you’re getting better. A well known campaign with an affirming PSA touch by Clairol.

Once upon a time I was a member of the “Yea right” brigade as it applies to the “You’re not getting older you’re getting better” slogan.

Change of perspective, and it happened a good while back, changed the mindset.

Yes I’m old. We have statistical data for a reason and statistically, I’m in the last quarter of my life.

I’m adverse to dragging my old glory days out. Even writing it in this context where it’s actually useful, it doesn’t fit well with me.

You can find the following online and is an older posting. Which do you think I was…. Bear, Ram or Hawkeye?

CJFL
The Toronto area really needs to look at getting back into the Canadian Junior Football League (ages 19 to 22 years).  Back in the day there were at least three teams in the GTA.  The Lakeshore Bears playing out of Centennial Park in Etobicoke, the Scarborough Rams playing out of Birchmount Stadium, and the Oshawa Hawkeyes playing out of the Shwa.

Back then talented football players who couldn’t attend college or university because of grades, money or whatever reason had a place to keep playing a high level of football in Canada.  Back in the mid 70s the Scarborough Rams having winning records of 10 and 0 seasons along with the Ottawa Sooners, and the Hamilton Hurricanes could give any University ball club a run for their money. Bring Junior ball back to the GTA!!!!

I see in my research for this tale that the Ontario Football Conference in 2017 is again part of the CJFL. Toronto is represented by the GTA Grizzlies.

So yeah, I had some Football glory days. Last one I signed, it was with Junior Argonauts. I’m pretty sure you can figure out the affiliation.

I remember it well. A weekend in mid March colder than a witch’s…., down at old CNE Stadium (I could tell you where to find pieces of CNE Stadium today but that’s a story for another time). Wind was blowing in through that gap between the 3rd base line and the North Grandstand.

Bulova Tower

The Bulova Clock Tower which used to be the Shell Tower was stuck at a balmy -6 C. Fun Wow!

There is an eeriness to an empty stadium. It’s both a bit haunting and really thrilling looking around all the empty seats when you’re down playing on the field. Visualization is an important tool and yes I envisioned 55,000 people cheering for me.

If the witch image isn’t working for you, try going with, “Brass Monkey”. Equality friends, equality, something for everyone.

I do appreciate why football players bitched about that outfield fence seam on the CNE gridiron! You hit that seam the wrong way, hey what’s a new ankle or knee between friends! Back then they had, “Turf Gripper” footwear. All those things did was make it easier for the “Turf Monster” to get you!

CNE Getty Images

I’m old. This is a fact. Using our measuring sticks, ¾ of my life is over, I’m old.

I had a brief conversation some months back with one of the people in my community I’m friendly with. You don’t need the entire context. What I told the individual is this, at this point in my life, if I want a story I write one. If I want a pretty picture, I make one.

Community friend was not made aware of what is in my past. I’d love see the face of community friend when they’re reading this piece.

I’m a far better writer, photographer, artist than I ever was a football player. We’ve already established, I was a good football player.

How wonderful is it to be able to do those things? How much better is this legacy of art? Sure, those questions are debatable, debatable to everyone but me that is and it is all about me.

To sit down and create. To be seen and read in 103 countries around the world. Now that is one glorious ego stroke. I worked and pushed out, I earned it.

My top 5 countries in order of viewership:

  • USA
  • Canada
  • India
  • South Africa
  • Italy

Number 1 and 2 aren’t a surprise. Those two should be where they are. Now number 3, if you know what I am now and what I espouse, it isn’t a great surprise.

When comparing numbers between Canada and the USA, Canada has about 10% of the people that the USA does. When I look at the stats I’d kind of expect to see the same ratio of 10 to 1. It’s about 5 to 1 and that pleases me.

“Far have I travelled and much have I seen”, Mull Of Kintyre. I don’t have your miles on me but hey, thank you Sir Paul!

What I’ve become is much better and far more powerful. I grew stronger and better. As I grew, I touched others significantly. I’ve met some real outstanding individuals and made a couple lifelong friends. To my mind, that’s the glory.

It isn’t all one way. I have been significantly touched myself. This makes me stronger, it makes me better.

“Carry me back to the days I knew then”, thank you, no. I have mulled it over and I have no desire to return.

Yeah, I’m older and I’m better. I’m worse too, the physical thing. I have that aspect of my life under control. It’s a non issue in the older/better sense.

The better not older campaign was aimed at the preoccupation with aging and death. That preoccupation is still with us. If you can give someone something they can rationalize a condition with, they just may.

If quarterbacking from the armchair and reliving whatever your “Glory Days” were and are, you can. Being the intelligent donkey I am, I’d say enjoy your retirement!

I’m telling you, if stronger and better is what you want to have as you move through life, then you gotta be engaged in life. Why? Why because that’s how it works.

When people tell you that your style or something you’ve done reminds them of the greatest of dead poets, you know you’ve achieved your goal of someday being one of them.

Try wrapping your head around this one. I knew it when I first started writing poetry. Monetary returns, never a real concern. I write for me and share. I happen to think some of my stuff is gonna live forever.

I don’t expect to realize the full glory until 150 years after I’m dead.

No, no, no, don’t fret for me!

I will be checking back to see if I’m correct. What!? You don’t think someone as glorious as I wouldn’t be able to check back and see what y’all are up to. Not a question.
